Dr Meono Teaching Sterile Processing

Instrument Cleaning Room Needs some updating

Melinda Marley; ECHN Head of Sterile Processing & Instructor

Outdated medical equipment & surgical instruments are heading to San Marcos hospital to be put into service once again!! As Eastern CT Health Network /Prospect hospitals update equipment OSSA is the happy recipient of the old and outdated items. San Marcos hospital personnel eagerly await their new instruments!   but……Before we could deliver them we needed to update procedures at the hospital…a challenge as they have cold water only… & wash all instruments manually- previously in clorox which quickly destroys delicate stainless steel instruments and equipment.

Instrument processing demo Melinda Marley of ECHN’s Sterile Processing, generously donated her time to teach 3 residents current worldwide standards in sterile processing. Armed with that workshop & IAHCSMM’s (International Assoc. of Healthcare Central Service Material Management) textbook & manual in spanish- the residents began teaching a course for the department heads, residents, nursing staff and other hospital personnel as well as a local nursing school. We are updating our products and standards to those of AORN, and World Federation for Hospital Sterilization Science WFHSS.

Thank you Melinda, Sherry, Lieka, Linda Lemire, and all of you many thoughtful friends at ECHN!! – your actions inspired a ripple of change for the better in another country– change that increases pride & professionalism as well as safer surgeries for those in need!!!!  Hooray!! Thank You!!
